Friday afternoon, most of the workers at the Coalmont Energy mine at Blakeburn were told that operations would stop for a while. How long this will last is not known.
There has been no word from CEC about when they will call people back and it doesn’t appear that anybody got called today. The morning commuting through town seemed nonexistent. Hopefully things will get sorted out and people will be back to work soon.

History so important.

There is always so much history written down on all the big cities. People naturally attract to the big cities, the big events. but even the small towns like Coalmont, are just as interesting and important. I find that the small towns brings people together like a family and you just seem to know so many more people than you would in a large city.

Cozy  and warm they were in the little little cabins. But what were those strange sounds outside in the storm?

Robert A. Hunt visits the actual Historical Coalmont Hotel

On June, 19th 2013 I (Robert A. Hunt) Drove to Coalmont, BC and visited the Historical Coalmont Hotel. This is the very same Coalmont Hotel I wrote about in my book, 'The Coalmont Legend'. I left a copy of my book with the Hotel's manager, Dave. Dave was very friendly and we talked about many things together. Dave was willing to give me a tour of the basement and the third upper level. At the moment the Hotel is in rough shape and in need of repair. The new owners, (From Vancouver, BC) have only had the hotel open for about three weeks. They know they have a lot of work to do. What causes people to be drawn to the town of Coalmont and the Coalmont Hotel, besides the rich history, is the paranormal activity. Thrill seekers are particularly interested and leave this town with an extraordinary story from their experience every time. People have reported seeing full size apparitions along with objects that move on their own and doors slamming shut with no draft.
If you decide to visit this extraordinary place, I suggest you make a point of visiting the Museum in Tulameen, which is the next town over. To me, Coalmont, Granite City and Tulameen are one place as they are all so close to one another. Walk the Kettle Valley Railway, boat, fish and camp in Tulameen and hike the endless trails or explore the many quad trails.
The people are very friendly and laid back here. Your stay will be one you'll never forget.

This oil painting Robert made is to balance warm and cold colours, light and dark, morning and evening. The detail of the little log cabin allows you to see the wood stove and furniture inside.
People remember our rich history between now and then, but legends are lost unless they too are written.
